Marshmallow Treats With A Twist

Everyone loves a good homemade rice crispy treat! I have been making them since I was a kid and each time they taste better and better. I'm pretty sure most people feel the same, because every time I make them everyone gets excited and they are the first to disappear. A good friend of mine even had her wedding cake made entirely out of rice crispy treats! So crazy and so good!

Recently, I have been playing around with the recipe and created something out of this world delicious!

Browned Peanut Butter Chocolate Crispy Treats

Its a long name....but seriously so good! So good in fact I am handing the recipe over to you on a silver blog platter! Enjoy!

What You Need

`5 tbs butter

`1/2 cup smooth peanut butter

`1 bag of mini marshmallows

`6 cups of puffed rice cereal

`1/2 milk chocolate chips

`1 tbs course sea salt flakes

Directions

`In a large pot over medium low heat...melt the butter until it turns a caramel brown color. This process takes the longest. I find that it takes a good 10-15 minutes to get the butter nice and brown.

WHY?! Browning the butter gives a whole new flavor, it adds a sweet yet nutty taste which complements the sweet marshmallows. Taking this extra step will set your crispy treats up above the rest!

`Once you have browned your butter, add the peanut butter and melt them together till super smooth.

`Add the entire bag of marshmallows and stir stir stir till it becomes a smooth molten mass of goodness!

`Turn off the heat!

`Add the puffed rice cereal 3 cups at a time. Be sure to fold the cereal in, rather than stir it because you don't want to smash the cereal. That will change the texture and give you flat treats.

`Lastly, add the chocolate chips. The chips should semi-melt through out the mixture.

`In a greased pan, push the crispy mixture into every corner. Be sure to use a piece of parchment paper to avoid sticking and to make a smooth top.

`Leave on the counter to cool for a half hour or more.

`I love to cute into squares and wrap them in fun ways. This time I just wrapped with colored kitchen twine. They look like mini gifts! Keep them in a plastic bag. They should keep for at least a week....if they last that long!
