3 Simple Baby Food Blends Your Baby Will Love
One of my most favorite babyhood phases is the start of their solid food journey! I started making baby food when my son was baby and it was actually how this website, Baby Boy Bakery, was born. I started sharing our baby food recipe here and all things motherhood. Making baby food will always flood my head with happy memories of being in the kitchen with my little ones. Now that Maya is fully immersed within solid food, I felt it time to share her three favorite fruit + veggie combos! We have nailed these three down and with out fail she gets so excited when they are served. They are pretty standard and I’d recommend to start by feeding each fruit or vegetable to your baby on its own before blending two or more together. This way you can rule out any unforeseen allergies. You’d hate to offer your baby a blend of foods, only to have them react negatively and not know which food it was that caused it.
To make these three baby food blends you don’t need much more than a stove top steamer, blender, and baby food storage. At the end of this post I’ve linked to all the products I use while making Maya’s baby food in case you’d like to check them out. While I’m no professional, I have been doing this for a long time. Kale + Mango
To make this baby food blend start by slicing 3-4 ripe mangos. Then rinse and roughly chop your kale. You can also buy bags of pre-washed + cut kale to make it easier. Place your mangos in the blender first so as the blender starts the juice of the mangos will help the blender along. Once your mangos are in the blender, stuff the blender to the top with kale! Now blend until smooth. You shouldn’t need to add any water to help break things down, the ripe mangos should be enough. But if the blend is too thick then you can add a few tablespoons of filtered water until you get the baby food texture you want.
Store in baby food storage that is freezer + heat safe for up to 2 weeks. Be sure to label with the food blend + date it was made.
Peach + Spinach
This baby food blend reigns supreme in Maya’s world. She used to be all about carrots but peach + spinach is her ultimate fav at the moment. I start by peeling and slicing about 5-6 ripe peaches. Then much like how we made the Kale + Mango, I put the peaches into the blender first then top it with handfuls of washed spinach. Then blend until smooth. If the mixture is too watery try adding more spinach leaves.
Store in baby food storage that is freezer + heat safe for up to 2 weeks. Be sure to label with the food blend + date it was made.
Blueberry + Carrot
A seemingly random combo that is surprisingly delicious! I like to steam one pound of peeled + diced carrots until fork tender. Then add them into the blender with a pint of rinsed blueberries. I also like to add in 1/2 a tablespoon of unsalted butter, I’ve read that adding unsalted butter to carrots can help the body absorb the nutrients. Plus it makes the carrots taste better ;) Blend until smooth. You will have to add some water too to help the blender along and make a smooth puree. Start by adding a few tablespoons of filtered water at a time until you get the texture you want.

I like to spend an hour or so making baby food for Maya at the start of the week. (She also enjoys baby food pouches too) I store all her homemade baby food in the freezer and when it comes time to enjoy it we warm slowly in the microwave at 15 or 30 second intervals. I know a lot of people warm up baby food there own way. I’ve always done it slowly in the microwave and have never had an issue. You can also dunk the baby food in simmering water on the stove. OR let it defrost over night in the refrigerator and serve it cold. Whatever you and your baby enjoy!
