Chocolate Chip Cookie Popcorn & Family Friday
As you know our family is very into our Family Friday nights! It was a tradition that began with my own mother where every Friday we ate pizza for dinner and watched a movie together. Family Friday was always something we looked forward to, a sweet reward for getting through the week. It also brought us together as we shared dinner, talked about our week, made plans for the weekend, and laughed together. As we got older my sister, brother and I looked to Family Friday as time we could reconnect and just be ourselves. The burdens of school, friends, homework seemingly melted away on Family Friday nights. Now that we are adults we are all still doing some version of Family Friday on our own. I can’t wait till we are all able to get together and enjoy a Family Friday. Now a days it is a tradition I bring to life within my own family and it still reigns supreme. A simple yet delightful tradition, still thriving all these years later.
Of course in our home treats are coveted and popcorn during a movie is mandatory. Why not combine the two? We all love chocolate chip cookies and making them mini sized to sprinkle through out popcorn proved to be brilliant! Salty, sweet, chocolate perfection!
This may seem a bit extra, taking the time to make chocolate chip cookies mini. And it is ;) it takes a bit longer to bake them mini sized. But seeing Mila get so excited over it made it worth it. Plus, we had so many extra that they made the perfect bite sized treat over the weekend. Great for lunch time treats too. And yes, I know you can just buy mini chocolate chip cookies. I wouldn’t be opposed to those in popcorn! It is fun treat to try out with your little ones to brighten up the week.
For these mini chocolate chip cookies I just used this recipe, but skipped the nuts and used mini chocolate chips vs regular sized ones.
The trick to making your chocolate chip cookies mini is to use a 1 tsp measuring spoon to scoop each cookie. Now I added mini chocolate chips to each cookie after they were scooped because I wanted to ensure each cookie had chocolate chips in it. You don’t necessarily have to do that. It added time and had I just mixed the chocolate chips into the dough and then scooped the cookies it would have turned out the same. Be sure to use mini chocolate chips. After the mini cookie dough balls had chilled in the refrigerator it was time to bake!
TIP! Whenever you make cookies I always let the dough balls chill in the refrigerator for about an hour or so until they are firm to the touch. This way they will hold the round shape and not melt into each other while baking. Another quick tip! You always want to scoop your cookie dough BEFORE you chill it. Otherwise once the dough is chilled it would be really hard to then scoop cookie dough balls out. I always make the dough, scoop dough balls onto a cutting board lined with parchment paper, chill the dough balls in the refrigerator for about an hour and then bake! ;)
