Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Treats
I shared this easy dog treat recipe last year near the holidays on social media as a fun gift idea for any pups in your life. Since our own pup Marley loves these treats, I’m sharing the recipe here to live on for anyone interested in baking up treats for their own fur babies.
We started getting into making Marley’s food and treats because he has such a sensitive stomach. We landed on Farmer’s Dog for his food and I make him these treats to enjoy every once in a while. Sadly Marley isn’t able to enjoy any store bought treats because they bother his stomach too much. However these ones I make are simple and last a while, plus don’t seem to bother his tummy. I should note, if you make anything for your dog or even buy anything for them to eat, always run it by their vet! Similar to when you feed your kids anything new ;)
This is such a fun one and if you have kids, they can get involved with cutting out the dog treats too. You can find the dog bone cookie cutter I used HERE!
Let me know if you give it a try and at the bottom of this post you can watch a quick video of how these dog treats come together! Also, our Marley pup turned 3 last week so Happy Birthday Marley!
Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Treats
Ingredients
1/2 cup pumpkin purée
2 tbs natural peanut butter
2 eggs
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
*dog bone cookie cuter optional
Makes About 20+ Dog Treats
Directions
Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, mix together 1/2 cup pumpkin purée, 2 tbs natural peanut butter, 2 eggs, 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/2 tsp salt until smooth.
Step 2: Next add in 2 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour and use a wooden spoon to mix until a dough forms.
Step 3: Place dough onto a piece of parchment paper and add another piece of parchment paper on top. Gently roll out the dough between the parchment papers until 1/4 of an inch thick.
Step 4: Peel off the top piece of parchment and use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes. I went with a dog bone cookie cutter which I found HERE. You can use any shape you’d like.
Step 5: Place the cut dough shapes an inch apart on a baking sheet lined with parchment or a silicone baking mat. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
Step 6: Let the dog treats cool completely, they will continue to harden as they cool. Serve one at a time to your pup every few days or so. Store in an air tight container for up to 3 weeks.
