Most of us have been making rice cereal marshmallow treats since childhood! It is still one of my most favorite things to do and I think it is even more fun when mix up the flavors. You can pretty much add anything to these and they’ll taste delicious. One of the best kitchen tips I can give is to always have marshmallows and cereal on hand, because no matter what marshmallow treats make everyone smile!

Our family typically adds in smooth peanut butter and tops them all off with corse sea salt. They truly are the best. If you haven’t made these already then do so as soon as possible!

Mila and I made these for our a weekly FB Live cooking series. Click HERE to watch the live stream video and make some along wit

Salted Peanut Butter Marshmallow Squares

What You Need; 3 tablespoons of butter, 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter (or any nut butter you enjoy), 1 bag of jumbo marshmallows OR 4 cups of mini marshmallows, 6 cups of Rice Krispy Cereal (other cereals that work well are; Chex or Cherrios), 1/2 tablespoon sea salt, *1 additional cup of mini marshmallows + sprinkles

What You Do

-In a large pot over medium heat melt your butter and peanut butter. Once they are melted together, add in your marshmallows and stir to coat them.

-Keep stirring until your marshmallows fully melt and the mixture is completely smooth.

-Turn off the heat and then add in your cereal and stir to coat all the cereal. Gently stir the cereal into the marshmallow mixture, careful not to crush the cereal as you stir.

-Spray a baking dish with non-stick cooking spray and then pour your cereal + marshmallow mixture into it. I like to use a smaller baking dish to get real thick treat squares. But you can use whatever baking dish you have on hand!

-Once your cereal + marshmallow mixture is in your baking dish, use a piece of parchment paper to push it down into the dish. If you don’t have parchment paper, then spray a spatula with cooking spray and use that to push down the mixture. You’ll want to really press down and work the mixture into the baking dish.

-Then sprinkle the sea salt (and sprinkles if you want) on top, press down once more to make sure the salt topping sticks. The salt here really helps cut the sweetness and bring out all the yummy flavors. The sea salt topping is my favorite part!

-Be sure to let the cereal + marshmallow mixture sit in the baking dish for at least an hour before cutting it into squares. This way you are giving it chance to form together and firm up. Letting it set for an hour will also ensure you get nice clean cuts when you slice it!

-Store in an air tight container or zip top bag for up to 5 days … if they last that long!
