I have such a serious love for red velvet anything. I just recently made these red velvet heart brownies in honor of Valentine’s Day. This simple recipe is great to have on hand in case you want to make a twist on the classic chocolate brownie. These red velvet brownies offer the perfect chocolate taste, plus have a sweet and tangy cream cheese surprise. The recipe is below!

What You Need

1 Stick Of Unsalted Butter (+ 3 Tablespoons Extra To Butter The Pan With)

1 Cup Sugar

1/4 Cup Cocoa Powder

3/4 Cup Flour

1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

1 Teaspoon Vinegar

2 Eggs

1 Tablespoon Red Food Coloring

1 Cup Room Temperature Cream Cheese

What You Do

-Start by pre-heating your oven to 350 degrees.

-In a small bowl melt the butter in the microwave in 20 second increments until the butter is fully melted.

-In a large whisking bowl whisk together the melted butter, sugar, vanilla, cocoa powder, pinch of salt, red food coloring and vinegar. Keep whisking until it all comes together.

-Next whisk in the eggs one at a time.

-Lastly, whisk in the flour adding little bits at a time. Fully whisk in the small portions of flour until your batter is fully mixed and smooth.

-Use the extra three tablespoons of butter to grease your baking pan. I like to double this recipe and use a baking sheet to bake these because it makes the perfect sized heart shapes. But you can use any square baking pan you have on hand and just cut the brownies into squares.

-Once the baking pan is buttered up pour your brownie batter into it and use a spatula to smooth it out. Evening the batter out so fills the pan.

-Now add the cream cheese on top. You can swirl it on top and then use a spatula to smooth it out. I just like adding cream cheese to the top for a creamy, tangy taste. Once the brownies are baked you’ll see a subtle cream cheese swirl but truthfully adding the cream cheese is just for taste. These are not your typical swirled cream cheese brownies because I don’t add any eggs or sugar to my cream cheese. I like it just plain since the brownies are sweet enough.

-Bake your brownies for 25-30 minutes. It may take more or less time depending on the size of baking pan you use. Be sure to use a toothpick to check and see if the brownies are cooked through or not. If the toothpick comes our clean then they are done! If the toothpick comes out with batter still on it, give them a little more baking time!

-Let the brownies cool before using a heart shaped cookie cutter to cut them.

-Store in air tight containers for up to 3 days.
