Nature Walk Scavenger Hunt - Keeping Busy At Home
It has officially been a full week + a few days of staying put at home, and I am trying my best to come up with fun ways to keep Mila entertained. Every day she asks if she can go to school, Jiu Jitsu, or swimming where she takes lessons. Forgetting that everything is closed and we have been instructed to stay home. I’ve found it a bit difficult to explain to her what is actually going on in a non-scary way (while inside I’m scared myself). She knows that we have to stay home right now so we don’t get sick. It has helped to Face Time actual family members and have them show her they are staying at home too. I just haven’t used the words virus, Covid-19, or coronavirus. I think keeping it light and breaking it down in to words she knows is best for her. Her ballet teacher has been live streaming their lessons and Mila gets to see the kids through the computer/TV screen. So she knows that she isn’t the only one staying home. It is heartbreaking watching her adapt to this new normal. However, Mila continues to be happy and is bouncing around just as she always does. She hasn’t shown any frustrations (yet) of staying at home.
For me, this is all so wildly difficult to navigate. Every day looks a bit different even though we don’t go anywhere. I have steered clear of creating any kind of schedule. My main focus is keeping every happy by allowing each of us to do the things we like to do. Every night we come together and write out the things we’d like to do the following day. We keep it light and positive. Reveling in the small task of making French Toast or playing high and seek outside. Sometimes we keep the television off all day. Sometimes it is on all day, swapping back and forth from family friendly shows to movies on Disney+. We read books, we craft, we cook, we play outside in the backyard or go for walks around our block. The energy here in our house is upbeat. When making dinner we keep happy music on and take turns dancing. My favorite time of day is when we video chat our family members. Our daily to-do’s and schedules have been tossed aside. In their place stand wholesome things like watching a movie together on the couch with popcorn, playing board games, and writing cards to send out to family. Dan and I both feel like we’ve been punched in the gut every time we check the news. Nervous of what is to come. Scared of the long term damage being caused by so many businesses forced to close. We don’t have much to add or contribute to what is going on right now in our world. We stay home, help the ones we can near us, and continue to share with you all things you can do with your families.
I have been busy creating new printable activities for you and your little ones! The first one I’m sharing is a fun Nature Walk Scavenger Hunt. Since the only thing we can do outside right now is play in the backyard or go for little walks around the block, we decided to make things more interesting! I’ve always created little lists of items or colors my kids could hunt for while outside. It is something I started with Ryan to help him learn the names and colors of things outside. Now with Mila, she has made it mandatory! We can’t go for a regular walk, it has to be a scavenger hunt!
You can find the link to our Nature Walk Scavenger Hunt printable below. Just download the link and print it out! We’ve left a few open spots on the list that you can fill in with things you might find near your own home. We hope you enjoy and if you use it please share with us! Sending you all love and light from our family to yours. Stay safe out there friends! Keep an eye out for more printable fun from us.
